doodles

This post comes after a super sweet and unexpected surprise arrived on my doorstep this morning. Last week, I mentioned to my friend Jaime that I wanted to have our friend Quinn doodle a picture of my daughter Jocelyn. I really did not expect anything to come of this conversation but when you are friends with Jaime, you have to learn to expect the unexpected! After my discussion with her, she and Quinn teamed up to create an awesome graphic art canvas of Jocelyn in her Snow White dress. The original picture was taken by my neighbor Meggie Velasco and is absolutely one of my favorite pictures of Joce ever! Tears started to stream down my face when I opened the package. It was beautiful!!! Both of these women are so talented and so giving and for that I am so thankful to have them in my life. I haven’t even met Quinn in person yet!!! We are virtual friends!! I wanted to hop in the car and drive up to DC and give both of these girls a hug!!! In a million lifetimes I could never repay any of my friends for the things that they do for me each and every day. Each and every one of you is so special to me and I cannot imagine my life without you all in it. Thank you Jaime and Quinn for this very unexpected surprise- you have no idea how much it helped brighten my day! And even more importantly, I think a world record may have been broken today. Quinn and Jaime held a secret in for more than 2 days. Yay!!! I am so proud of you both!

Please make sure you head over to Jaime and Quinn’s sites to check out their work. As I said before, they are both extremely talented!! Quinn is also running a special – 15% off of her doodles. So make sure you get doodled before the special ends!!

The picture above shows the original image and the doodle. The canvas can be seen below.

Here is Joce with her picture. After she saw it she wanted to put her Snow White dress on!

I told her about the surprise when I picked her up from school. She could hardly contain her excitement! Well, Cade was not quite so happy for her, since he didn’t get a surprise too. So, to make himself feel better he told her it was probably a boring surprise like a pile of dirty underwear.  After that comment, they spent the rest of the ride home coming up with silly things that it could be- a pile of grass, leaves, a car, and the list went on. I was hoping we would make it home before boogers were introduced! You’ve gotta love kids!

This past weekend, I hopped in my car again to continue what has now become, Jessi’s Great American Roadtrip! This time I was headed to Columbus, Ohio to visit Wombat, Tin and Ted (What fun are friends if you cannot create random and somewhat meaningless nicknames for them!). I absolutely love visiting college campuses, so I had to make a few stops before I got to their house – see pictures below! I had such a great time visiting my friends and the city of Columbus. They took me to all the weird and wacky landmarks around town and believe me Ohio has alot of them! If you are ever headed to Ohio, you need to pick up the book, Weird Ohio…it has some interesting information in it.

As exciting as all of the sights were the highlight of my trip was definitely meeting Ted! He is Wombat’s beautiful baby boy. He is sooooo cute! I wanted to take him home with me…he would have fit right in with my brood- blue eyes and blonde hair! Unfortunately, Wombat wouldn’t let me have him and our house is at maximum capacity:)

Thank you Wombat, Tin and Ted for spending your weekend with me…I cannot wait to visit with you all again!

I had to stop off at the University of KY, I have never been there before! I was in enemy territory though, so I didn’t stay long!

We headed over to The Ohio State University campus to find places to shoot in the afternoon on Saturday.  There were so many cool places to shoot but they will have to wait until I make another trip up in the spring or summer months because it was FREEZING outside! 22 degrees and 15 mile an hour winds didn’t feel good on these southern bones, so we headed inside to the State House.

Ok so there wasn’t any crying – well maybe only from laughing too hard! This is Snookie (Sabrina is her real name), my very best friend from childhood. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without this girl in it. We have so many inside jokes that my husband says we speak our own language.

This past weekend she  celebrated her 30th  21st birthday, with a very fun dinner party at Solas in North Carolina.  I had an AWESOME time! Sabrina had a full day of beauty planned (hair, nails, etc.), so I decided to follow her around with my camera all day. Everyone kept asking if she was getting married, it was hilarious. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the night.

I won’t tell you what I said to get this reaction from her. Ha!

Sydney Willow

This past weekend before the UT game (if that is what you want to call it…more like UT shalacking) I got to meet a very special girl:) I have been following her story (her mom keeps an online journal) since she was born almost 2 years ago and I finally got to meet her on Saturday! Sydney was born 3 months early and she weighed in at just 15 ounces…yes ounces! She was basically the size of a cell phone and could fit into the palm on your hand. She has come such a long way in just two short years and it was such a pleasure to meet such a beautiful child, who is so full of life and love. Enjoy:)

Playing with her new Smokey doll:)

Lots of love from mom and dad:)

We will call this, “Oh no the Vols lost face”.

Sydney and I were playing a game of Peek a Boo…she was having a great time!

I think this is my favorite picture from the bunch- look at that smile!!

Erin- Maternity Session

A few weeks ago I got together with my friend Erin to take some maternity pictures. I told her we needed to take pictures while she still felt good and not like a pregnant woman. She called and told me she was starting to feel huge…so we decided to move quickly. When I saw her I wanted to laugh…she is still so tiny!! In some of the pictures you can barely even tell she is pregnant…she looks fantastic! Her small bump actually worked in our favor in a few of the shots…they would not have been possible with a bigger bump:) Thanks for spending the day with me Erin, I had a great time! Enjoy!

** I want to throw in a shameless plug for Erin and her husband. John owns Firecrete and does all things concrete.  Please pass his site and name along to anyone that you know that needs concrete work done!! Also, Erin has her own monogramming company and she does a great job!!  So, if you need a personalized gift for a baby or adult please shoot her an email @ erinroth@gmail.com.

We warmed up with a few pictures at Erin’s house…her neighbors probably thought we were crazy…this was taken out on the curb in front of their house.

Ella- the big sister. She is such a cutie:)

I did ask permission to post the next four pictures:) Thanks Erin!!

The Hazard Family

I love this family! Rosanna and I met way back in 9th grade and have remained close friends ever since. I was even her Matron of Honor when she got married 6 years ago- Happy Anniversary by the way!! When I went to Maryland 3 weeks ago she asked me to take some family pictures for her and of course I said yes! I have only seen her son in pictures so I was very anxious to meet him. He is such a  sweet, sweet boy:) He was in a great mood when we started off but things slowly went downhill after about 30 minutes. LOL He still did a great job considering he had no nap:) Thank you Rosanna, Tim & Ryan for spending the day with me. I had a great time!! Seeing all of my friends and family back in Maryland always makes me a little homesick:)

Look at that face!! So cute;)

I love this picture! These two have such great chemistry together, it was almost like they were newlyweds! We had so much fun getting this picture…lots of laughs!

Yet another one of my satisfied customers! That is what I do…I am all about customer service. LOL

Ryan tapped out after this…so the rest of the pictures are of mom and dad:)

I love my friends!

Baby Maya

I have not forgotten about you!! I am still working on getting caught up:) The plan when I went to Atlanta 3 weeks ago was that I would stay with Pam & Dev because Maya was not due until this past weekend (I was actually to try to get some maternity shots of Pam), so me staying would be no big deal. Well little Maya decided that it was time to come 3 weeks early! After talking to Pam & Dev, we all decided that I would stay with them anyway and I am glad I did. Not only did I get to capture this precious little baby’s first days home…I got to babysit the dog when she headed back to the hospital for her first visit. It was a false alarm but you know the saying, better safe than sorry. So as Pam & Dev headed out the door to the hospital, Roxy (their first baby- a yorkie) and I had a photo shoot. LOL Congratulations to Pam & Dev! Maya is absolutely beautiful and I know you two are going to be fantastic parents!

Pictures of Maya’s first bath:)

She loved it…can’t you tell;)

Poor Roxy sat on the couch most of the night waiting for Pam & dev to return home.

Keaton – 8 months

Two weeks ago I met up with Julie and her adorable daughter Keaton to take Keaton’s 8 month pictures. We went to UT Gardens and then headed downtown for some urban baby shots;) I had lot of fun catching up with Julie and Keaton…they have a blog (www.missinglinkfam.blogspot.com) that I follow so that I can keep up with all things Keaton and Link but there is nothing better than some face to face time:) Thanks Julie and Keaton for getting up at the crack of dawn…and for bringing me chocolate chip muffins! Enjoy!

This is one of the few shots I got where Keaton is actually looking at me…most of the time she is looking at her momma:)

Keaton loves when her mom swings her like this…she was belly laughing:)

Hi Mr. Bear, nice to meet you…

now get out of my chair. LOL

This poor innocent child has no idea what is coming for her…

freezing cold water at 9am on a Sunday morning.  It seemed like a good idea at the time.

She forgave us;)

And then she modeled for us:)

I will call this picture high noon. I wish I had better photoshop skills…I would have pasted a tumbleweed into this picture. LOL

Peek a boo!

Tired baby! Julie’s mother made the sock monkey outfit that Keaton is wearing in these pictures…she also made the blue smocked dress that Keaton is wearing in the purple chair in the beginning of the post. That dress was actually Julie’s when she was a baby. Her mother is so crafty!! And I love that she saved things from 30 years ago for Julie’s children!

OK, I guess she really is tired. We decided to call it a wrap after this picture. Modeling is hard work!

Again, she forgave me:) Look at that sweet little face!

Kaylee

I went to Kaylee’s house while I was in Atlanta to take her newborn/family pictures. I was supposed to come a week earlier but had to postpone my trip due to my children being sick. In the meantime, Kaylee was born…on 8-8-08! As many of you know, the number 8 is considered to be a very lucky number in Chinese culture. If 8 really is lucky, this is one VERY lucky family  because all of their birthdays are on the 8th day of their birth month…even their cat!!

I had such a great time photographing this family. Mike and Rachel have such a genuine love for each other and I am absolutely certain that love will be shared with Kaylee…to the cat’s dismay. LOL Thank you for your patience Rachel and Mike and Congratulations on your new little bundle of joy… she is a beauty:)

(Kaylee’s grandmother bought her that huge pig…isn’t it awesome. I wanted to take it home with me. Kaylee has lots of pigs in her room…so I took lots of pictures of her piggies.)

I think this may be my favorite picture from the entire shoot. So sweet!

I will call this one…pigs on pig.

This rocking chair used to belong to Rachel’s grandmother.

These shoes were Rachel’s when she was a baby. I love that Rachel’s mom saved all of these things for when Rachel had children.

A little smile from Kaylee:)

Kaylee’s grandma also bought Kaylee her first baseball/softball glove:)

I wanted to do something special for Kaylee’s birthday – so I made her a shirt:) I was born on 8-8-08 and all I got was this lousy shirt!
